My Dog Life |
Hi! I'm Happy. Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the interwebs. Contact me at happythebloggingdog@gmail.com if you'd like. |
Clean folded laundry on top. Dirty laundry pile on bottom. When it comes to laundry, I don’t discriminate. It’s all comfy to me.
Coffee in bed on a Friday morning?! We’re having a three day weekend cuz momma took the day off. She’s taking us to the beach once we get all packed up. I’ve been on the beach before but Joey hasn’t. We’ll see how he likes sand between his paws. TGIF!
Correction: Joey HAS been to the beach before. Silly me, I forgot. My brain is a little fried these days. But this will be our first time at the beach together!
A Happy picture to spice up your Sunday.
That’s Joey with my mom. He got preferred treatment this week and went into the office with her TWICE! He also got to do something else I didn’t this week. He saw Lady! That’s right. Joey had an impromptu reunion with our former foster sister on the streets of downtown Annapolis. A bonus to my mom’s half mile walk from her parking spot to her office: she sometimes bumps into Lady and her new mom because they live downtown. This time around Joey was with her. I know what you’re thinking…Joey must have been over the moon excited! Umm, not really. Joey was too distracted by the busyness of downtown to really focus on Lady. He didn’t seem to recognize her at first. After they exchanged some sniffing, he relaxed a little but overall, the run-in was more exciting for my mom than anyone else. Seeing Lady is always a treat. She’d had a haircut and looked super cute. Her new momma said they’re working on her separation anxiety. I know the feeling, Lady!
Joey also had his annual vet check-up this week. That’s one thing I was not jealous of. Joey is usually easy breezy and never gets sick or acts sick so my mom thought it’d be an easy breezy appointment. But Joey got some bad news. His kneecaps in both hind legs are popping in and out of the socket. Luxating patellas or funny knees as I like to call them. Finally we have an explanation for why Joey is so clumsy. Joey sometimes falls down when he’s moving fast or takes a quick turn, especially on slippery floors. We thought it was because when he was rescued he was so underweight, his legs were weak and he couldn’t even sit up. He had little muscle development in his thighs and the falling down was attributed to that. His legs were x-rayed before we adopted him and they looked healthy and normal. My mom thought Joey’s falling down sometimes was normal for Joey. But it’s his funny knees.
In speaking with our vet, Joey is close to being in the “area of concern” when it comes to these funny knees. My mom’s going to start keeping a super close eye on him and tracking his falls — how often and what type of flooring/ground it’s happening on. There’s a surgery to fix this, of course. A really expensive surgery, two surgeries actually because they do one knee at a time. But aside from the financial cost, any and all surgeries come with risks. And can you image little 7 lb 15 oz Joey in surgery? Me neither.
If you have experience with luxating patellas, post a comment and let us know. And please send our family some good thoughts. It’s been one thing after another around here.
It snowed today. Whoopdewhoop. We woke up to white windows and trees and when my mom let us out the back door, I was surprised at how cold that white stuff was under my feet. It was just enough snow to give us a taste of winter but not bury us. After all, I’m low to the ground so I prefer these dustings over a blizzard. If you’re wondering why Joey’s not wearing his snowflake shirt like me, it’s because Saba chewed his up. That Saba. She’s a lover…and a chewer.
These pics were taken in the afternoon. There was a little more accumulation on the morning.
My mom got a $100 gift certificate to a fancy pants pet boutique for Christmas. That is basically like giving her a million dollars. She was so excited! Naturally, she decided to use it to buy fun stuff that looks like me like this Christmas ornament and handpainted coffee mug. Side note, does anyone else think it’s a little weird they had items with my likeness on it? They must be readers of my blog. They didn’t have anything that looked like Joey. Sorry Joey! You’re just not as famous as me.
My mom also got us new collars (my foster sister Sabs chewed mine up) and got a leash connecter thingy that will let her walk Joey and me together on one leash. She’s excited to try it out. Joey and me? Meh. We’ll see how it goes.
Saba has an adoption event tomorrow. Cross your paws she finds her forever home. She’s a nice girl but still not so sure about my mom. It’s a bit challenging but we’re happy to put her up. Oh and she also peed a little on the couch. Don’t tell my dad.

Look what my grandma stumbled upon! A photo of me was “pinned” by the Official Washington Redskins Pinterest account. They pinned me to their “Redskins TAILgaters” board and called me a “waggy tailed Redskins fan.” I’ve been on their page for 16 weeks (!) and didn’t even know it! They picked me photo up from Pawesome. I don’t know if you guys realize it but this is a very big deal. My family takes their Redskins very seriously and this is a very proud moment for us. Go Skins!
Umm, but a serious question…why don’t I have more repins?!
New pet buddy blanket. A score from the Target dollar bin.
